Dr. Kyle received his Ph.D. at the University of Alberta, Canada, in the field of Lipid Biochemistry. He undertook postdoc research at Michigan State University, the Institute for Chemical Research in Tokyo, the Center for Nuclear Studies in Paris, and the University of Essex in the UK, before leading a research team studying algal-based nutrition and life support systems for NASA at the Martin Marietta Corporation. He co-founded Martek Biosciences Corporation, which became a publicly held biotech company, and was acquired in 2011 by DSM for $1.1B. As SVP of R&D at Martek, he developed and implemented the long term R&D strategic plan which, among other things, resulted in the commercialization of the Company’s highly successful DHA- and ARA-based Nutritional Products which are now added to infant formulas worldwide. In 2000, David became the United States Director of the Mother and Child Foundation, an international organization dedicated to the improvement of nutrition for mothers and children. In 2001, he founded Advanced BioNutrition Corp, a biotech company dedicated to providing functional nutrition and disease control in animal feeds. As Chairman and CEO, he secured over $20M in equity financing for the Company and also spearheaded new programs involving novel nutritional components in aquaculture feeds and the stabilization and delivery of probiotics and oral vaccines in aquaculture and terrestrial animals. In 2013, David took on a leadership role in Evolve Biosystems Inc, and led this UC Davis start-up through a Seed, and Series A Round ($9M) financings, and directed the transfer of university innovations into commercial plans. In 2015 he was appointed the CEO of Evolve and is presently involved in the execution of corporate development through marketing of the Company’s first commercial products. During his distinguished career David as published over 70 scientific articles, edited two books, and is the named inventor on over 80 patents.
