JOAN GREGOR, President and CEO, Intersection-Inc / The Design Academy
Business is Better When Connected Through Design, is Joan’s passion for fueling innovation by translating business strategy into meaningful human-centered design solutions. In 2003 she co-founded The Design Academy with partner, Chuck Pelly, to optimize ROI by applying a rich array of perspectives from academia, industry and government through collaborative & interdisciplinary knowledge - key to solving today's complex, multi-dimensional challenges. In 2005 they created Intersection-Inc, a design innovation consultancy to humanize technology and positioned The Design Academy as their human-centered design / design thinking education collaboratory.
As a leading design strategist, Joan integrates the organic creative process into tangible and feasible business and design management strategies. Through The Design Academy she mentors individuals on design thinking/human-centered design tools and helps facilitate the integration into their company’s processes.
Her work has included design thinking, sensory brand language, design assessments, process integration; and strategic planning for companies such as GEHC, GE Oil & Gas, Bose, CVS, BMW. Joan is founder of the global Power of Collective ThoughtTM network of collaborators, suppliers and manufacturers which accelerate innovation. She has several patents for retail products, taking a start-up from market to commercialization.
In addition to serving on the Design Forward Alliance Board, Joan is a strategic advisor to UC San Diego Design Lab directed by Don Norman, and is on the Advisory Boards for Ideate High, Ignite What’s Right, and Resource Fiber, the only fully integrated bamboo company in the U.S.
Through her multinational clients & sense of adventure, she has travelled
extensively and sailed in the South Pacific, contributing cultural insights & knowledge to her perspective on projects.
