Senior Executive Vice President, Public Affairs
Gary Andres is Senior Executive Vice President for Public Affairs at BIO. He is responsible for Bio’s State and Federal Government Relations Departments, its Communications Department and its Alliance Development and External Relations Department. Prior to joint Bio, Gary was Majority Staff Director of the House Energy and Commerce Committee from January 2011 until February 2017. He was also the Vice Chairman, Strategic Communications, Polling and Research at Dutko Worldwide from 1993 until 2010, where he oversaw the firm’s work with clients helping to develop and deliver their key messages and advocacy ideas to Capitol Hill and the executive branch. From January 2001 to July 2001, he served as a Special Government Employee working as the Senate Confirmation Coordinator in the Office of Legislative Affairs in the White House for President George W. Bush. In that capacity, he helped coordinate the U.S. Senate confirmation process for a number of cabinet and subcabinet officials for the president. He was also Deputy Assistant to the President from 1991-1992 and Special Assistant to the President from 1989-1991 in the Office of Legislative Affairs in the White House, serving President George H.W. Bush. In this capacity, Gary worked all of the president’s key domestic and foreign policy initiatives with the House of Representatives. He earned a Ph.D. in public policy and an MA in political science from the University of Illinois-Chicago. He holds a BA from Wheaton College (Illinois). Gary is married and has five children.
